Robert Grethel, Esq.
Robert Grethel, Esq., graduated cum laude from the Pepperdine University School of Law, and received a Certificate in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine’s Strauss Institute.
While at Pepperdine, he served as the Associate Editor of the Pepperdine Law Review, and a member of the Phi Delta Phi Law Honor Society.
As an undergraduate, Robert attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he majored in International Relations, with a minor in Philosophy. He then worked as an intern for the United Nations in New York City, where he developed unique problem solving and negotiating skills.
Jeremy M. Shatzer, Esq.
Jeremy M. Shatzer, Esq., graduated cum laude from the Pepperdine University School of Law. While at Pepperdine, he served as an Editor of the Pepperdine Law Review, and competed both regionally and nationally for Pepperdine’s interschool Competition Trial Teams.
As an undergraduate, Jeremy attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he majored in Political Science, with an emphasis in International Relations.
His practice is focused on the defense of workers’ compensation claims. He is recognized as a highly effective trial attorney, specializing in the enforcement of his client’s Medical Provider Networks.
Karri L. Fischer, Esq.
Karri L. Fischer, Esq., is a graduate of Pepperdine University School of Law, where she also obtained a Master’s degree in Dispute Resolution.
Before joining the firm, Karri worked for the in-house law firm of Mercury Insurance Company, where she obtained extensive experience in the investigation and litigation of injury claims.
Karri has also worked as a mediator for the Los Angeles and Ventura County Superior Courts. Her experience as a mediator is extremely useful in the early and cost-effective resolution of claims.
Harbiks Garabedi, Esq.
Harbiks Garabedi, Esq., graduated from Loyola Law School, where he competed on the VIS Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Team.
While at law school Harbiks served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Gary Allen Feess in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He was also a Senior Editor for the Los Angeles Public Interest Law Journal.
After obtaining his undergraduate degree in History from the University of California at Santa Barbara, Harbiks worked as a claims adjuster at a major commercial lines insurer.
Callen Johnson, Esq.
Callen Johnson, Esq., received her Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University School of Law, where she obtained a Certificate in Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute, and a certification from the Geoffrey H. Palmer Institute for Entrepreneurship and the Law.
Prior to obtaining her Juris Doctorate, Callen obtained Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees in Psychology, also from Pepperdine University.
Prior to joining the firm, Callen worked as a lien representative appearing at hundreds of WCAB hearings, the experience gave her a great foundation for her work as a defense attorney.
Marla B. Shah, Esq.
Marla B. Shah, Esq. received her Juris Doctorate from Mc George School of Law. While at Mc George, she earned Top Moot Court Honors and Trial Advocacy Honors. She attended UCLA and has a double major in Political Science and Art History. She obtained her art history degree from the University of Paris, Sorbonne. Marla is an accomplished civil litigation attorney and workers’ compensation attorney who a senior associate attorney in our worker’s compensation department. Additionally, she is an Adjunct Law Professor at National University and College of the Canyons.
Paul Lee, Esq.
Paul Lee, Esq., graduated from the Pepperdine University School of Law. As an undergraduate, he attended the University of California, San Diego, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology. His education provides him with a unique perspective and understanding of medical issues giving him added insight when defending workers’ compensation claims.
Prior to joining the firm, Paul worked as a lien representative throughout southern California and his extensive legal writing history includes over 50 Petitioner’s Opening Briefs to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Gina Shirinian, Esq.
Gina Shirinian, Esq., graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law where she obtained her Juris Doctor as well as her Certificate in Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute. While in law school, Gina competed regionally at the ABA Representation in Mediation Competition and served as a volunteer mediator in various courts across Los Angeles County. Gina received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine, where she majored in Social Ecology, which a concentration in Criminology, Law, and Society.
Susan K. Laffer, Esq.
Susan K. Laffer, Esq., (Of Counsel) specializes in advising employers regarding employment-related issues, conducting workplace investigations, providing management training, developing policies and resolving disputes by litigating and/or engaging in alternative dispute resolution. Susan works with clients to make well-informed, thoughtful decisions, implement proactive measures and reach effective resolutions that take into consideration.
Leslie Van Aken, Esq.
Leslie Van Aken, Esq., earned her juris doctor from Santa Clara University’s School of Law. While earning her degree, she clerked for Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto where she also served on the Board of Directors alongside the general counsels and partners of Silicon Valley’s biggest tech companies and law firms. She also clerked for the Santa Cruz District Attorney’s Office with their misdemeanor and consumer fraud units.
With her passion for trial advocacy, Leslie went on to serve the People of Santa Cruz and San Francisco as Assistant District Attorney, prosecuting misdemeanors, and felony fraud crimes and taking six cases to trial. After a special project interviewing over 140 jail inmates for Santa Clara County’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Improving Custody Operations, Leslie worked with Farmers Insurance’s in-house workers’ compensation defense team handling all phases of litigation. It was at Farmers that Leslie litigated her first workers’ compensation trial, earning a take-nothing verdict.
Prior to attending law school, Leslie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of California at Santa Barbara. While there, Leslie helped found the Mock Trial team, serving as teaching assistant, team captain, and leading the team to the National Competition at Stetson University in its second and third years.
Arman Shirinian, Esq.
Arman Shirinian, Esq.,earned his Juris Doctorate from the Pepperdine University School of Law. During his time in law school, Arman volunteered with the Labor, Equity, and Performance Division of the Los Angeles Superior Court, exposing him to various aspects of employment litigation. Arman also helped provide free representation in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service through the Pepperdine Low Income Taxpayer Clinic, and served as a Judicial Extern in both the Probate and Civil Departments of the Los Angeles Superior Court. Prior to obtaining his Juris Doctorate, Arman attended the University of California, Los Angeles, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, with a concentration in International Relations.
